The Department of Health – Central Luzon Center for Health Development (DOH-CLCHD) convened its partners and implementers of the newborn screening (NBS) program from across the region on January 24-26, 2024 at the Best Western Plus Metro Clark Hotel in Angeles City, Pampanga. The meeting evaluated the progress of the NBS program and determined solutions to common issues and gaps encountered within the region. The three-day event brought the participants to agree on the next steps to advance the NBS program.
Dr. Janet T. Miclat, head of the DOH Family Health Cluster, discussed the region’s NBS coverage and program performance for the year 2023. She also presented the proposed budget allocation and work-and-financial plan for 2024. Lectures were delivered by representatives from the DOH-CLCHD, Newborn Screening Reference Center (NSRC), Newborn Screening Center — Central Luzon (NSCCL), and Newborn Screening Continuity Clinics (NBSCC). The lectures and discussions focused on the program’s performances, a review of important processes and standards, and identification of the challenges experienced by the stakeholders. The event was attended by newborn screening representatives from provincial and city health offices in Region III, Philippines.
