Thirty newborn screening (NBS) coordinators from Region III attended a competency training on NBS at the Greene Manor Hotel in San Fernando City, Pampanga in February 2024. The training aimed to equip provincial and city NBS coordinators with the necessary technical and hands-on skills to conduct NBS training in their respective areas, thereby expanding the reach of NBS training in the region. This was the first-ever Training of Trainers (TOT) organized and conducted by the DOH-CLCHD in response to the growing demand from health service providers in the region.
The new set of trainers were already invited to the trainings conducted by the DOH-CLCHD to improve the effectiveness of the support and guidance to the latest trainers. Since February, the DOH-CLCHD has conducted five training sessions for new health providers in the region. At the end of each training session, participants underwent a practicum at the Jose B. Lingad Memorial General Hospital to demonstrate their ability to collect high-quality NBS samples.
