Strengthening Lifesaving Care: NBS Training Held at Aurora Memorial Hospital

by Provincial Health Office – Aurora

Newborn Screening (NBS) is a vital health service that enables the early detection of genetic, metabolic, and congenital disorders in newborns. Through timely diagnosis and treatment, it helps prevent severe complications, lifelong disabilities, or even infant mortality—giving babies the best possible start in life.

In line with this goal, a two-day Newborn Screening Training was conducted on May 28–29, 2025 at the Aurora Memorial Hospital Conference Room. The activity was led by Dr. Janet Miclat, regional family health cluster head; Jean Canlas, Regional NBS coordinator; and Mark Kevin Ramos, assistant NBS coordinator. With their guidance and shared expertise, the participating health professionals enhanced their technical knowledge and capacity to implement and sustain quality NBS services in their facility.

The Aurora Memorial Hospital served not only as the training venue but also as a key partner in ensuring the success of the activity—demonstrating its commitment to advancing maternal and child health in the region.

As the NBS program continues to expand, initiatives like these ensure that more healthcare providers are empowered to protect the health and future of every Filipino newborn.
